Lysterfield Squad Breaky - 21st March Keep Sunday 21st March free as there will be a breaky at Lysterfiled from 9am. Prior there will be a 90 mins run from 7:30am of 3km open water swim at 8am. Latest News & Results Fantastic effort by all athletes with some REALLY impressive results. Everyone today had various reasons for racing - some used it as a CONTROLLED pre IM hitout- some really wanted to have a last all out effort plus take on some other squad members head to head. For others it may have been to consolidate a top 3 finish in the series or others was because their coach told them to. Anyway well done and thank you for supporting the race/series throughout the summer and we will need to wait and see how we faired in the $1000 winner take all SQ competition. In the end it will be probably the volume of athletes we had today that will see us hopefully win the competition. Looking at the results things that certainly stand out; Jared Klein 1st podium this year and takes out 1st place in his age group...in a really competitive time. Anna Francis – fastest female overall in the entire race. David Swan and Nathan Hill’s Sizzling run splits – sub 17 mins for both David Swan and Wade Zervaas fast bike splits around 33 mins Steph Zervass 3rd placing in the open category and a cheque to take home.. Sarah Hughes and Simone Peirce’s continued improvement in the 3 legs – consolidating places in the top 2-4. Jenny Hosking sub 25mins run and 2nd placing in the race and the series. Thanks to those who helped out and worked today- a special mention to the Zervaas parents- helped out I think at nearly all races this year… now have the title in the office as KEY marshals! FINALLY congratulations to those who podiumed today; Jared Klein 1st Anna Francis 1st David Swan 1st Jenny Hosking 2nd Simone Peirce 2nd Rob Hill 2nd Steph Zervaas 3rd Nathan Hill 3rd Wade Zervaas 3rd Sarah De Wolf 3rd And of course – Series placings: Anna Francis 1st Jenny Hosking 2nd Clint Van Beveren 2nd Sarah Hughes 3rd Well done to Maureen Wilson up in NSW- despite only finding out 10 days prior to a 45km that she had got in- was able to run a PB in the 6ft track event and come 3rd in her age group. Amazing effort given she had NOT run longer than 3hrs prior… Weekend News & Results (5/6 Mar) IM New Zealand was on the weekend and a perfect morning turned out to be a typically windy NZ IM. Clint (55:24 4:59:21 3:20:55) 9:21:00 18 overall 3rd Male 35-39 Michael Hill (1:09:00 5:40:39 3:50:07) 10:48:03 253 overall 23rd Male 45-49 Jodie Barker (1:06:00 5:52:31 3:46:06) 10:52:56 274 8 Lance Purdon (1:29:22 6:36:36 4:14:55) 12:34:28 664 152 Dan Thompson (54:06 5:28:18 3:13:25) 9:41:31 46 18 As you can see some great results. Clint never ceases to amaze me with his out standing results. I know all athletes put in 100% but Clint has sacrificed a lot and spent a lot of time effort and $ leaving no stone unturned over the past 12-18 months…a PB for IM I think but a podium result in a world class field is outstanding and well deserved. Michael Hill set him self up nicely in the event with a Big PB in the swim- rode well and felt good coming off the bike but said he just found the run really tough- heart rate lower than he would like. Finished the run off but – tests showed – low blood pressure – very low glucose levels?? Not sure why. . Dan Thompson- would be happy with his swim and have alook at that run time But a puncture did not help his cause hence the slow bike split – An out standing result given the bike mechanical issues. Jodie and Lance seemed to have had strong races. Well done to all in the big training session on Saturday. Everyone getting through well and people seemed very prepared and will benefit from that in the IM in 3 weeks. All were LUCKY with the weather too. MMM coach not so lucky with still setting up for the race when that nasty storm hit… To Sunday- a few of the girls had a run around in the All Woman’s event in Mordaialloc.. Daniella doing a fine job in commentary. Jenny Hosking – 2nd in her age group. Julie Lane did well and ran a fast 4km. Michelle Easton unfortunately punctured. PowerBar Athlete's of the Month - February Sarah Hughes has had a great season and it was capped off in February with a debut half IM at Geelong in a sensational 5:01 (transition practice is only needed) and then in a season where she repesented Aus at the Olympic Distance World Champs came 7th in the Austrlian Sprint Champs.
